Preventing Grill Fires

Cooking (both indoor and outdoor) causes nearly half (49%) of all home structure fires in the US.   We have all heard/seen a story where an outdoor grill caught on fire and destroyed an entire home.  Additionally, thousands of people go to emergency rooms yearly as a result of an outdoor grilling accident. We want to provide a few safe tips to hopefully prevent this from happening to you.

Some Simple Ways To Prevent Fires/Injuries

βœ” #1 is to clean your grill regularly.  Most fires resulting from flare-ups are simply due to the grill being dirty.  This can be from excessive pile up of grime on any location within the grill.  Additionally, clogged grease buckets and/or drip pans cause backup that create fires. 🧼

βœ” Inspect your grill regularly.  This should go hand in hand with cleaning.  Checking gas lines/connection points,  burners , flame tamers and other components such as your ignition system.  πŸ‘€

βœ” Never cook or do a high heat burn-off unattended.

βœ” Ensure you don’t have any explosive and/or highly flammable materials near the grill (i.e. flammable cleaners, pool supplies, reserve propane tank, etc.)

βœ” Avoid grilling in high wind situations that could cause the flame to spread beyond the firebox. πŸ’¨

βœ” If food happens to drop beneath the grates, avoid just burning it off.  Let the grill cool down then retrieve it.

βœ” Always keep a fire extinguisher, baking soda or our favorite recommendation a fire blanket in close proximity should a fire occur.🧯
